Presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr denied he was avoiding handshakes during a campaign sortie and was merely shielding an injured hand, his spokesman Vic Rodriguez said on Sunday.

“BBM does not avoid the handshake, but only avoids his hand that injured the arm near the wrist that seems to be infected,” Rodriguez said.

“But like a true leader who delivers a message to unite the country against the crisis caused by the pandemic, he ignores it and he continues to interact with the people who love him and the BBM-Sara UniTeam,” he added.

Marcos was seen in a video pulling back his hand after a supporter tried to grab it during his caravan in Caloocan City.

“BBM was soaked in the caravan and rally for twelve hours yesterday in Caloocan city after he toured almost the whole of Ilokandia the other day with Inday Sara,” Rodriguez said.

“Our camp is asking for the understanding of our compatriots and supporters to avoid squeezing the hand and arm of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos for the meantime so that the infection does not worsen and his wound heals quickly,” he added.
