PH insurance premiums hit record P500b in 2025—Go

Finance Secretary Frederick Go said total insurance premiums in the country topped P500 billion for the first time in 2025, signaling increased financial literacy and protection among Filipino families and businesses.

Speaking at the Insurance Commission 77th anniversary, Go said the milestone reflects broader public participation and a growing awareness that insurance is an essential tool for economic resilience. The commission is a Department of Finance attached agency that regulates insurance, pre-need, and health maintenance organization industries.

“Beyond the numbers, this milestone tells us something even more important. It reflects broader public participation and a growing awareness among Filipinos that insurance is an essential tool for financial protection. This also reaffirms the industry’s role as a cornerstone of economic resilience,” Go said.

The industry reported total assets of P2.66 trillion in 2025, with most funds supporting government securities and domestic investments for infrastructure and national development. In the healthcare sector, health maintenance organizations paid P12.10 billion in benefits and claims during the same period.

The pre-need industry also saw growth as total premium income rose to P23.94 billion in the 4th quarter of 2025. Approximately 895,679 plans were sold by the end of the year to cover educational and memorial needs.

Go said the government remains committed to strengthening the sector and reaching underserved communities. He called for the further development of Takaful, microinsurance and accident coverages to expand the reach of financial safety nets.

To sustain this momentum, Go urged the industry to prioritize consumer protection and digital transformation to create faster and more secure systems. He also emphasized the need for collaboration with ASEAN and global partners to ensure policies remain inclusive and responsive to a changing economy.
