Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said Wednesday that the government expects the completion of Section 2A of the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 project by 2027, providing a vital link between the North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway.
The 1.2-kilometer elevated lane interconnection structure aims to cut travel times across the capital. Lopez said the trip from Skyway-Buendia to NLEX Karuhatan will be reduced to 25 percent to 30 minutes from the current two hours, while the commute from Skyway-Buendia to the Port Area will drop to 20-25 minutes.
The project follows a directive from Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to accelerate infrastructure development to reduce travel time and fuel consumption for motorists.
“The benefit here is what our President says we have to cut travel time. The time we waste in traffic, in road congestion, we can spend more of it on our family. The beneficiaries of this are around 30,000 vehicles per day,” Lopez said.
The project is a joint effort between the government and San Miguel Corp., led by president Ramon Ang. Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon and Toll Regulatory Board executive-director Jay Art Tugade joined Lopez to inspect the site, noting that construction is now in “full blast” following a six-year delay caused by right-of-way acquisitions.
