Philippine Treasury, IMF reaffirm partnership on fiscal reforms

The Bureau of the Treasury and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reaffirmed their longstanding partnership and commitment to institutional engagement during a strategic dialogue held on March 4, 2026.

National Treasurer Sharon Almanza and Deputy Treasurer Kenneth Ian Francisco met with IMF executive director for Japan Jun Mizuguchi, Asia Pacific Department deputy division chief Dennis Botman and public financial management II deputy division chief Maximilien Queyranne to assess ongoing collaborations.

The meeting focused on strengthening coordination on the bureau’s key reform priorities, specifically centered on public financial management and opportunities to deepen technical cooperation in areas such as treasury management.

The engagement underscores a shared commitment to promoting sound fiscal governance and transparency to support the long-term economic stability of the Philippines.

During the meeting, Almanza welcomed Japan’s support to the bureau through the IMF and noted other critical fiscal reforms that would require continued technical support.

The discussions cited the importance of sustained technical assistance as the bureau navigates complex financial reforms. Officials said the collaboration remains an “impact-driven partnership” aimed at advancing capacity-building cooperation across the agency’s various functions.

The BTr said it continues to manage the country’s fiscal health through these international partnerships, ensuring that treasury management aligns with global best practices.

While specific budget allocations for these reforms were not disclosed, the bureau said it remains focused on maintaining the country’s creditworthiness and fiscal integrity.
