State pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said it is donating technology packages and essential learning equipment valued at P12 million to 30 public schools across the country to support students in underserved communities.
Under an agreement with the Department of Education starting 2024, each recipient school will receive a P400,000 package including information and communications technology equipment, furniture and appliances tailored to their specific needs.
GSIS will oversee the procurement and delivery of the items.
The initiative is part of the GSIS Adopt-a-School Program, which is designed to enhance the learning experience for students in indigenous communities and remote areas.
The program aims to bridge the digital divide by providing resources that support both online and face-to-face instruction.
“This is an investment in educational equity and the future of our young learners,” GSIS president and general-manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso said.
“By bringing digital tools and modern equipment to schools, especially those in indigenous communities and remote areas, we are creating tangible opportunities for students,” he said.
Since the program launched in 2014, the state pension fund has supported 195 public schools nationwide with a total expenditure of P64.6 million.
These contributions have ranged from laptops and printers to infrastructure repairs and school furniture. As part of its sustainability efforts, the agency has also installed solar panels in 2 schools in Mindanao.
To date, the program has reached 20 schools in the National Capital Region, 82 in Luzon, 38 in the Visayas and 55 in Mindanao.
The Adopt-a-School Program serves as a pillar of the corporate social responsibility efforts of GSIS, which also includes employee participation in the annual Brigada Eskwela.
