Globe Telecom Inc. is deploying sustainable battery charging hubs across typhoon-prone regions in Southern Luzon and Bicol to strengthen its network resiliency.
These regions often lose mobile signal and internet services during prolonged commercial power outages caused by typhoons. With the new facilities, Globe can ensure backup batteries powering its cell sites remain in optimal condition. By enabling quick testing, recharging and replacement of units, the hubs minimize downtime and maintain reliable mobile service during emergencies and extended power interruptions.
The initiative is critical in Southern Luzon and Bicol, where severe weather frequently disrupts communication. By keeping vital systems running, the hubs help residents continue working and studying while staying in touch with family.
“Connectivity is a vital part of people’s everyday lives. That is why we strive to keep our cell sites operational, especially when disasters strike. We’re making sure that communities can count on Globe to stay connected no matter the situation,” said Joel Agustin, Globe senior vice president for network planning and engineering.
Charging hubs are now operational in San Pablo, Laguna, and Batangas, with deployment underway in Pili, Camarines Sur. Additional facilities are being prepared in Mindoro, Palawan, Marinduque and Romblon.
Each hub can refresh multiple batteries per week, ensuring a steady supply of fully charged units. Personnel across all locations have been trained to manage battery recovery and maintenance, detect issues early and help prevent service interruptions.
The initiative also supports Globe’s commitment to sustainability. As the company increases its use of renewable energy, the hubs contribute to a more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible network.
