Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling affirmed the national government’s commitment to socialized housing in Las Piñas City following the allocation of nearly P255 million for the project under the 2026 General Appropriations Act.
Aliling expressed continued support for local housing initiatives during a meeting with Las Piñas Rep. Mark Anthony Santos and other stakeholders. The funding is intended to provide secure and affordable shelter for underprivileged and homeless families within the city.
The initiative is a project of the National Housing Authority, an attached agency of the DHSUD. NGA officials intend to provide low-cost units within or near urban centers for informal settler families and other qualified beneficiaries.
Santos said the in-city relocation project would be implemented by the NHA following the House of Representatives’ approval of the 2026 General Appropriations Bill on its third and final reading late last year. The budget will fund the construction of three medium-rise buildings.
Santos said his office has identified two suitable sites across the city’s two districts for the development.
The NHA will identify and screen beneficiaries, focusing on informal settler families living in high-risk areas such as waterways and easements. Households without adequate housing and low-income families who meet agency criteria are also eligible.
“With the support of President Marcos, the DHSUD, the NHA and other concerned government agencies, the socialized housing program of Las Piñas City will finally be realized after more than a decade of planning and despite opposition from powerful political figures in the city,” Santos said.
The lawmaker, who served seven terms as a city councilor, said the realization of the program demonstrates that public welfare can prevail over political resistance.
Aliling said the P255 million allocation reflects a national strategy to support urban housing. These projects align with the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino program, which carries a nationwide goal of building 1 million units annually until 2028.
He said the inclusion of the funding in the 2026 budget underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring families in highly urbanized areas have access to safe and dignified housing.
