FedEx, DTI help Filipino textile MSMEs master global trade

Federal Express Corp. (FedEx), one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, teamed up with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to hold a Masterclass, equipping 33 Philippine textile micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the knowledge and tools needed to expand their global footprint.

The learning series, held on Dec. 3, 2025 in Taytay, Rizal, leveraged FedEx’s global logistics expertise. It covered essential import and export fundamentals, including creating air waybills, understanding document requirements, proper packing of textile shipments and shipment tracking.

The initiative aims to boost the textile sector, a significant part of the Philippine economy. In 2024, the Philippines exported $892 million worth of textiles, making it 13th among the country’s 22 export categories. Key destinations included the United States, Japan, China, South Korea and the United Kingdom. During the same year, the country imported $2.18 billion worth of textiles, also ranking 13th among Philippine imports, sourced primarily from China, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

“Our collaboration with DTI amplifies our ability to support Filipino businesses. By sharing our logistics expertise and global network, we make international trade simpler and more accessible,” said FedEx Philippines managing-director Maribeth Espinosa.

“This goes beyond delivering shipments, it is about opening avenues, nurturing ambitions and ensuring that even the smallest businesses have the opportunity to grow beyond borders. We are committed to turning the promise of global trade into meaningful progress for Filipino MSMEs across the country,” said Espinosa.

The latest effort represents another milestone in FedEx’s mission to empower MSMEs and foster inclusive economic growth through continued collaboration with the DTI to enable Filipino businesses to seize global trade opportunities.
