Chinabank launches Google Pay for credit and debit cardholders

China Banking Corp. (Chinabank) announced Tuesday it has enabled Google Pay for both its credit and debit cardholders across Mastercard and Visa networks, becoming one of the first Philippine banks to offer the secure tap-to-pay convenience.

The partnership, launched on Nov. 18, 2025, allows Chinabank customers to add their cards to Google Wallet for contactless purchases in stores and secure online checkouts using Android devices. The move marks another milestone in the bank’s commitment to modern, customer-focused financial solutions as it continues its digital transformation journey.

“Partnering with Google Pay perfectly aligns with our ‘Focused on You’ brand promise,” said Chinabank payments solutions head Jose Julian Baduria Jr.

“This initiative is part of our broader digital transformation strategy to make everyday banking more seamless, secure, and relevant to our customers’ changing lifestyles,” said Baduria.

Digital payments continue to accelerate the shift away from cash, and this collaboration is poised to offer cardholders fast, contactless and highly secure transactions both locally and internationally.

“We’re proud to work with Chinabank to bring faster, convenient and more secure payments to the Philippines,” said Google Philippines country manager Prep Palacios.

“This launch underscores our enduring commitment to accelerating financial inclusion and fueling the next chapter of the Philippines’ dynamic digital economy,” said Palacios.

The bank cited the security features of the new service. “Google Pay transactions are done with secure digital tokens,” Baduria said.

“Actual card details are never shared or stored on the device, significantly reducing the risk of fraud,” he said.

“Our goal is to give customers the freedom to pay how they want wherever they are,” Baduria said. “By integrating with a trusted global platform like Google Pay, we’re bringing that convenience and confidence directly to their mobile devices.”

Chinabank did not release a projected impact on transaction volume or provide numbers regarding the cost of the partnership.
