MANILA—Smart Communications Inc. chief operating officer Anastacio Martirez has stepped down, following allegations regarding a toxic workplace culture under his leadership, the company’s parent PLDT Inc. said.
The telecommunications company said Martirez expressed his intention to pursue “original entrepreneurial ventures which will be outside Smart Communications Inc.”

Martirez returned to the PLDT Group in September 2024 after a 20-year absence. He said he aimed to help reclaim the company’s mobile industry leadership.
