GSIS defends ‘data-driven’ investment strategy

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Friday defended its investment strategy and governance, citing “proven, data-driven success” amid dissent over its leadership and fund management.

The state-run pension fund for government workers emphasized its “fundamental fiduciary duty: to deliver maximum value and security to our 1.7 million members,” saying current criticism stems from differing views on investment strategy and governance.

GSIS, which manages assets for civil servants, SAID its leadership operates on a principle of professional, evidence-based fund management, with all decisions made within “the strictest procedural and legal frameworks” mandated by Republic Act No. 8291.

“This process effectively invalidates any insinuation of mismanagement or financial loss,” the GSIS said in a statement.

The pension fund highlighted its financial data as of August 2025 as the true measure of its stewardship.  It said total assets grew to P1.92 trillion, marking a significant expansion, while net income reached P100.02 billion, exceeding the period’s budget by 51 percent and surpassing the prior year.

Total income stood at P231.06 billion, outperforming both budget targets and the previous year, driven by strong premium contributions and investment returns.

Fund Life remains securely extended to 2058, it said.

The GSIS said these results are the direct outcome of a stability-focused strategy and expert asset management “delivered under the very leadership that is now being questioned.”

GSIS president and general-manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso resumed his duties following a preventive suspension, ensuring continuity in the leadership that achieved the record-breaking performance.

The GSIS said that while it respects and defers to the legal process, its focus “remains unwavering: serving our members.”
