Online gaming provider DigiPlus Interactive Corp. said Wednesday it filed license applications with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB) in South Africa.
The move marks a significant step in the company’s international expansion, following its recent launch in Brazil.
DigiPlus said it is seeking three operator licenses in South Africa: a National Manufacturer License, a Bookmaker License and a Bookmaker Premises License. The WCGRB is considered a key regulatory body for international gaming operators due to its transparent processes and digital infrastructure.
“The filing of our online gaming license in South Africa marks another milestone in DigiPlus’ global growth journey, as we bring our proven track record of innovation, responsible gaming, and player protection, together with our strength in localizing games for diverse markets, to one of Africa’s most dynamic economies,” DigiPlus chairman Andy Tsui said.
The filing comes just two days after DigiPlus launched GamePlus, its first international brand, in Brazil on Sept. 22.
The company said these developments are part of its broader vision to become a leading digital entertainment provider in the world’s fastest-growing markets.
DigiPlus operates well-known platforms in the Philippines, including BingoPlus, ArenaPlus and GameZone.
South Africa’s online betting industry was valued at more than 28.97 billion rand ($1.6 billion) in 2023 and 2024 and is projected to grow by up to 5 percnet annually. Growth is driven by mobile phone use, an increasingly digital population and strong demand for live sports betting.
The licensing process in South Africa begins with probity checks for both the company and its ultimate beneficial owners. Once completed, applications are submitted for board review and platform testing. The entire process takes at least six months.
