The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has indefinitely postponed the launch of student-exclusive Beep cards in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to a system recalibration.
The launch, originally scheduled for Monday, Sept. 15, was delayed “to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience for students,” the DOTr said in a statement.
“We just need to recalibrate the system based on our initial assessment to ensure that students will not encounter any problems when applying for their white Beep cards,” the DOTr said.
The department apologized for the inconvenience and said it was working to resolve the system issues within the month.
The 50-percent train fare discount for students will continue, but they should use single journey tickets for now. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities can continue to use their existing white Beep cards to get their 50-percent discount, it said.
Unlike single-use cards, white Beep cards are personally validated, cashless cards that automatically apply the 50-percent discount.
