A leading group of architects in the Philippines expressed its support for a thorough and transparent investigation on flood control projects in the country.
“The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), as the Integrated and Accredited Professional Organization of Architects (IAPA), unequivocally denounces corruption in infrastructure and public works projects,” UAP said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
”Corruption wastes public resources, compromises public safety and undermines the nation’s progress. Every Filipino deserves facilities that are safe, durable and genuinely serve the society,” said UAP president Jonathan Manalada in a statement dated Sept. 10, 2025.
The group issued the statement as the Senate, the House of Representatives and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) conduct separate investigations on alleged non-existent or substandard flood control projects which received billions of pesos in government funds.
The UAP said that as movers of progress, the group would champion transparency and accountability in the planning, procurement and execution of public projects; uphold the highest ethical standards among architects and allied professionals; remain vigilant and actively engaged, asserting its participation in national, provincial, and local government initiatives to safeguard integrity in public works; and collaborate with government, industry, and civil society to ensure ethical governance and responsible decision-making in the built environment.
“We call on all architects, professionals, and stakeholders to join us in actively protecting public welfare. The UAP will not only advocate for integrity but will also monitor, guide and assist government projects to ensure that every infrastructure investment genuinely benefits the people,” it said.
The UAP said integrity is non-negotiable, because it is the foundation of genuine progress and nation-building.
