THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Friday it has expanded its free “Love Bus” service in Metro Cebu, benefiting thousands of commuters daily.
The expansion comes in response to a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to revive the iconic bus service and make it free, which aims to help reduce commuters’ expenses.
Dizon said the president wanted to revive the Love Bus and make it better and free.
“The President said we must do it for the entire country and it is symbolic that we are launching it in Visayas and Mindanao. The program is worth it because it is a direct benefit for the passengers,” he said.
Dizon said that before the free service, commuters had to pay P30 one-way, or P60 for a round trip. “This is a big deal for our workers and students,” Dizon said.
The expanded service on the Talisay City/Anjo World route to Cebu City and vice versa will benefit about 2,462 commuters and 44 operators and drivers daily, using 11 buses.
The program was first implemented in Cebu in July 2025 under the Service Contracting Program (SCP) on the Urgello-Parkmall route, where 20,000 passengers benefited daily.
Since the initial launch, nearly 650,000 passengers have used the free bus service in Cebu.
The free rides on the Love Buses are available from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
