The combined effects of the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Cyclone “Crising” have left an estimated P134.66 million in agricultural damage and losses, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Tuesday.
The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Operations Center said that as of 8 a.m., the total volume loss was 3,412 metric tons (MT), primarily affecting rice production.
The weather events impacted 6,377 farmers and fisherfolk and 8,035 hectares (ha.) of agricultural land. The DA said of the affected land, 6,699 hectares, or 83.38 percent, have a chance of recovery, while 1,336 hectares, or 16.62 percent, are deemed beyond recovery.
Rice crops accounted for 90.51 percent of the total value loss. Corn accounted for 3.96 percent of losses, and high-value crops (HVC) for 3.37 percent. Other commodities collectively sustained 2.16 percent of the damage, with livestock and poultry at 2.12 percent, fisheries at 0.03 percent and cassava at 0.01 percent.
The DA said it is assessing the full impact and developing recovery plans to assist affected farmers and fisherfolk.
