The average cost of producing palay (unhusked rice) in the Philippines rose to P14.52 per kilogram in 2024 from P13.38 in 2023, the Philippine Statistics Authority said Tuesday.
Central Visayas recorded the highest production cost at P19.73 per kg., while Eastern Visayas had the lowest at P12.59.

The average production cost per hectare of palay also climbed to P59,695 in 2024. Cagayan Valley reported the highest cost per hectare at P78,245, with Eastern Visayas seeing the lowest at P45,557 pesos.
Net returns from palay averaged P36,211 per hectare, with Central Luzon achieving the highest net returns at P58,932 pesos per hectare.
