Dingdong and Jennylyn’s ‘Descendants of the Sun’ is coming to Netflix

After bringing honor to the country when it was recognized as the first local TV program to receive the Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year award in the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards, the local adaptation of Korean drama Descendants of the Sun headlined by Dingdong Dantes (who was also awarded the prestigious Asian Star Prize in the same annual global festival) and Jennylyn Mercado, is going to available on the popular streaming platform Netflix starting Nov. 13.

“As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, we continue to strengthen our digital presence while staying true to our mission of creating world-class programs. Our biggest drama production this year, Descendants of the Sun Philippines, is the first GMA program to be streamed on Netflix Philippines,” GMA Network said in a statement sent to Manila Standard Entertainment.

‘Descendants of the Sun,’ GMA’s biggest television drama this year, is top-billed by Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado and helmed by Dominic Zapata.

The romantic action drama premiered on Feb. 10, but production was temporarily suspended due to the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Lock-in tapings with strict safety measures were held last month, which enabled the series to resume its run on Oct. 26, starting with a two-week recap on GMA Telebabad.

Joining Dingdong and Jennylyn in the cast are Rocco Nacino, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Renz Fernandez, Chariz Solomon, Andre Paras, Nicole Donesa, Reese Tuazon, Jenzel Angeles, and Bobby Andrews.

Also in the drama are Neil Ryan Sese, Pancho Magno, Antonio Aquitania, Ricardo Cepeda, Ian Ignacio, Rich Asuncion, Carlo Gonzalez, Hailey Mendes, Marina Benipayo, and Roi Vinzon.

Descendants of the Sun is directed by Dominic Zapata.
