QC public school students to receive Samsung Galaxy tablets

A total of 176,000 public school students in Quezon City, covering Grades 7 to 12, are set to receive their own Samsung Galaxy tablet to assist in their virtual learning environments for school year 2020 to 2021.

“Our goal is to ensure that our public-school students have learning continuity resources that are at par with their private school peers,” noted QC Mayor Joy Belmonte.

“We are glad that our city was able to acquire such high-quality tablets from a leading global brand, at a remarkably reasonable cost,” she added.

The quad-core Samsung Galaxy Tab A runs on an Android 9 operating system, with an internal memory of 32GB ROM plus 2 GB RAM, a microSD storage capacity of up to 256GB, and a 2 megapixel and 5 megapixel front and rear camera, respectively. The tablets also have WiFi or WLAN connectivity, and a USB port for external storage support.

To ensure that the gadget can only be used for learning purposes, each unit comes with pre-installed safety and privacy features, and automatically denies access to prohibited extensions.

The P1.2-billion supply-and-delivery contract was awarded to Trireal Enterprises, and its joint venture partner Radenta Technologies Inc.

“With all the challenges that our public-school students face under these new learning conditions, at least we are assured that their Samsung Galaxy Tab A devices will be able to meet the demands of long-term use. They are a leading technology brand for a good reason,” Belmonte said.
