Batangas provincial council approves internal rules

The Batangas provincial council on Tuesday formally passed its Internal Rules of Procedures (IRP) in its 3rd regular session after almost a month of discussion.

In an exclusive interview with Manila Standard, Vice Governor Hermilando Mandanas said that “only the law protects the people from tyranny of the majority and dictatorship.”

Earlier this month, the council’s inaugural session was heated as the presiding officer stressed the need to study a new set of proposed rules before being voted upon by the body.

Batangas 6th District Board Member (BM) Aries Emmanuel Mendoza proposed a new version of the IRP, insisting on its immediate approval to outline the procedures and guidelines for the conduct of sessions.

Mandanas assured the public that the new IRP, which is expected to guide the continuous implementation of programs and projects in the province, followed the rules in accordance with law.

The former governor also underscored the need for unity in the provincial government to better serve Batangueños, noting it must serve as a model for the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, a resolution recognizing Mandanas as the National Chairman of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines (LVGP) was also passed, co-sponsored by all the council members—a symbol of unity and support for the new leadership.
