Iloilo has been named one of Asia’s most affordable summer destinations, according to digital travel platform Agoda, offering a strong opportunity for Philippine hoteliers to tap into the growing market of value-seeking travelers.
With average nightly room rates in Iloilo among the lowest in Asia, the city joins a list led by Surabaya (Indonesia), Tirupati (India), Hat Yai (Thailand), and Dalat (Vietnam).
Agoda’s data reveals that Gen Z and millennial travelers are prioritizing affordable stays, with more than half of Gen Z respondents aiming to spend under USD 50 per night. Millennials share similar habits, pointing to a broader trend in budget-conscious travel across the region.
For Philippine hoteliers, this shift opens doors to offer competitive rates without compromising earnings. Agoda recommends bundling hotel stays with local experiences—such as heritage tours, food crawls, and island excursions—to boost value and increase guest satisfaction. Hotels can also benefit from adopting dynamic pricing models, flexible booking policies, and targeted digital campaigns to capture last-minute and solo travelers.
Agoda’s research highlights solo travel as a growing trend, especially among women from Hong Kong and Thailand. Philippine destinations like Iloilo can appeal to these travelers with time-sensitive promos, discounted solo packages, and curated local perks.
Food remains a major travel motivator, especially for tourists from Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. Hotels in the Philippines are encouraged to collaborate with local chefs, feature regional dishes, and offer pop-up dining to elevate the travel experience while maintaining affordability.
Agoda currently offers access to over 5 million holiday properties and 300,000 activities, providing partners with tools to create tailored travel experiences that convert budget demand into higher revenue and repeat bookings.
