London-based fashion brand features ‘shibori’ pattern collection crafted by Japanese artisan

London-based fashion brand COS has introduced a special new collection featuring the traditional Japanese dyeing technique called shibori. The collection is a collaboration with Kazuki Tabata, an artisan from Kyoto who is skilled in the craft.

The collection includes 14 pieces of clothing and accessories for both men and women. It uses the shibori technique to create beautiful patterns by binding, folding, and dyeing fabric. The clothes come in soft shades of blue, orange, and brown.

“The collaboration proudly celebrates the fusion of traditional craft and modern design. The brand’s signature silhouettes are transformed through the craft of shibori: the result is a capsule with a unique blend of texture and flair,” COS shared in a statement.

Crafted for effortless layering and adaptable styling, every piece is ideal for a tropical climate. A silk scarf highlights the Sekka Shibori technique, while other apparel features the Tesuji Shibori technique, crafted from sustainable materials such as Tencel Lyocell.

COS is known for making stylish, long-lasting clothes that are also sustainable. It uses recycled and eco-friendly materials in its designs. Kazuki Tabata, on the other hand, originally trained in sound and lighting, taught himself shibori after being inspired by his father’s work. He now creates beautiful designs through his company, Tabata Shibori, bringing this traditional Japanese craft to the world with COS.

The collection is available online and at the COS Store in SM Aura Premier.
