loilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. said Sunday local governments will demand public accountability for the damage caused by the widespread power outage in Panay Island blamed mainly on the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and power plants on the island.
“Yes, we will examine our laws because there is always a way ofexacting accountability especially if we are talking about public utility. Public utility is different from an ordinary corporation. We will pursue damages,” Defensor said in a radio interview.
Nearly 300 public schools in Panay Island alone have reportedlysuspended their face-to-face classes following the massive poweroutages in Panay and the Western Visayas region, said Senator Christopher Go.
Go said business establishments have suffered huge losses due todamaged goods and non-operational equipment, a sentiment also expressed by Defensor, who added lost opportunities for households.
