President Ferdinand Marcos on Tuesday declared December 26 (Tuesday) as a special non-working day across the country.
Proclamation No. 425, which was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on December 12, said that the declaration would give people a full opportunity to celebrate the holiday season, citing that Christmas Day celebration on December 25 would fall on Monday.
“The declaration of 26 December 2023, Tuesday, as an additional special (non-working) day will give the people the full opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones,” the proclamation read.
“A longer weekend will encourage families to get together and strengthen their relationship leading to a better society,” it added.
Moreover, President Marcos instructed the Department of Labor and Employment to issue the appropriate circular to implement this Proclamation for the private sector.
