‘Oplan Rody’ won’t stop in Caloocan, police vow

In spite of the new controversy of the alleged murder of a half-naked man caught by the police, the implementation of “Oplan Rody” or “Rid the Streets of Drunkards and Youth” of the Caloocan City Police remains in force.

Caloocan City chief of police Senior Supt. Jemar Modequillo said the authorities continue to cope with the headaches of some of the residents’ disobedience to the city government’s ordinances, despite their initial enforced operations where hundreds of those caught were asked to do push-ups, and children caught violating the curfew ordinance were advised not to repeat the mistake.

“For as long as we see a violation, we will not stop operating,” Modequillo said.

The Caloocan Police conducted Oplan Rody for two months under the “warning phase” where no one was arrested and detained. The local police removed the “warning phase” today and their operations are more serious because of the rampant violation of obnoxious law breakers.

Meanwhile, Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan is set to meet their Peace and Order Council to conduct an investigation of another controversy.

This is in line with the ongoing investigation by the National Capital Region Police Office, which has issued a relief order against the Police Community Precinct 6 commander, Chief Insp. Narciso Cajipe Jr. and Senior Insp. Jun Silvertino.

Modequillo reiterated that the legitimate operation of Oplan Rody against Mario Balagtas was legitimate because the arrested half-naked man fired back at the authority. Balagtas was alleged as one of the leaders of a robbery-holdup group.

Cajipe said he was wearing a bullet proof vest that saved his life from the firing of Balagtas. He said that if not for his vest, he is a dead man.
