Viet envoy gets Sikatuna award

OUTGOING Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Truong Trieu Duong was conferred the Order of Sikatuna award by President Rodrigo Duterte for his exemplary performance and meritorious service in fostering and strengthening bilateral diplomatic links.

The President on Tuesday conferred the award to Duong, recognized for showing his “demonstrated concern for the Filipinos” during national calamities, particularly in the aftermath of Typhoon ‘‘Haiyan.’’

Duterte also cited the “laudable representation of his government,” which gained, according to Malacañang, the momentum of vibrant relations between the Philippines and Vietnam.”©

The Order of Sikatuna, one of the national orders of diplomatic merit of the Philippines, is being conferred upon individuals who have rendered exceptional and meritorious services to the Republic of the Philippines on diplomats, officials and nationals of foreign states who have rendered conspicuous services in fostering, developing and strengthening relations between their country and the Philippines. 

Among those awarded the order were outgoing US President Barack Obama, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and the late Thailand King Bhumibol Adulayej.
