Baldoz: Extra pay on visit of Pope

Wage earners in Metro Manila will receive additional pay during Papal visit on January 15, 16, and 19  which have been declared as special non-working days.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda  Baldoz has urged private business employers to observe pay rules and core labor standards for  workers who will work on the scheduled dates.

“Proclamation 936 declared the said dates special non-working days in Metro Manila on account of the visit to the Philippines of His Holiness Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church and Head of the State of the Vatican,” she said.

The pastoral visit of Pope Francis is scheduled on January 15 to 19 and the Roman Catholic Church has lined up religious activities in Manila

A University of Santo Tomas (UST) official said Pope Francis’ will meet about 24,000 representatives from the youth sector and some inter-religious leaders in UST on January 18  as part of his four-day Philippine sojourn.

Associate Professor Giovanna Fontanilla, UST Office of Public Affairs director, said a meeting  with religious leaders will be held in front of the 400-year-old school’s Arch of the Centuries.

She said the encounter with Filipino youth will take place at the UST Grandstand and Open Field.

President Benigno Aquino III issued Proclamation 936 on Dec. 22, 2014 through Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr.
