Trading suspended for 3 days

The Philippine Stock Exchange on Wednesday announced a three-day suspension of stock market trading during the papal visit.

“In view of the …Proclamation No. 936 issued on Dec. 22, 2014, please be informed that there will be no trading on the following calendar days: Jan. 15 [Thursday], Jan. 16 [Friday] and Jan. 19 [Monday],” PSE chief operating officer Roel Refran said in a memorandum.

Malacañang earlier declared the three calendar days as special non-working days in the National Capital Region, which effectively suspended government work during the period.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas handles the clearing of financial transactions in the country.

Pope Francis is scheduled to visit the country on Jan. 15 to 19.  Most activities during the papal visit are concentrated in Manila, where the Bangko Sentral is located.
