The holiday traffic crunch: A growing concern

The festive season continues to approach rapidly, which means… traffic congestion in our metropolis is worsening. Gone are the days of defined rush hours; gridlock can now be found at any time, day or night. The number of private vehicles continues to rise, outpacing public transport options, and car sales are skyrocketing.

While local malls have extended their hours to 11 PM, providing some relief and allowing shoppers to visit during off-peak times, this is merely a temporary fix. The holiday season inherently brings more traffic, and without effective management, the situation will only deteriorate.

Government agencies must prioritize clearing our streets of roadworks, hazards, and illegal parking, which significantly disrupt the flow of traffic. Additionally, implementing innovative traffic management strategies—such as smart signals and dedicated bus lanes—can alleviate congestion. Encouraging public transport, carpooling, and cycling could further reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

As we prepare for the holidays, let’s urge our local leaders to implement comprehensive traffic solutions year-round. Together, we can transform our streets into a more navigable environment, ensuring that the joy of the season isn’t overshadowed by the burden of relentless traffic.
