Leading airline launches direct Manila-Sapporo flights, strengthens ties with Japan

Cebu Pacific (CEB) launched its first-ever direct flight from Manila to Sapporo on Thursday, becoming the only airline offering non-stop service between the two cities. This move strengthens CEB’s position as the largest airline linking the Philippines with Japan.

Sapporo is now CEB’s fifth Japanese destination, joining existing routes to Tokyo (Narita), Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. The new service offers Filipino travelers more affordable options to explore Japan, thanks to CEB’s low-cost model and frequent seat sales.

On Jan. 16, CEB started operating direct flights three times a week— every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Flights depart from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at 11:15 a.m., arriving at New Chitose International Airport in Sapporo at 5:25 p.m. (local time). Return flights leave Sapporo at 6:25 p.m., landing in Manila at 11:20 p.m. (local time).

This direct service reduces travel time by up to five hours and offers savings of up to 63 percent on airfare.

“Sapporo is a gem in Japan’s tourism landscape, famous for its winter charm, natural parks, and rich cultural heritage. We are excited to bring it closer to our Filipino travelers, continuing our mission to make air travel more accessible and affordable,” said Xander Lao, CEB President and Chief Commercial Officer.

The launch was marked by a ceremony at NAIA Terminal 3, attended by Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines His Excellency Kazuya Endo, Philippine Transportation Undersecretary Bobby Lim, and Japan National Tourism Organization Executive Director Makoto Watanabe.

“We encourage everyone in the Philippines to make Hokkaido your next adventure. The Japanese government is working closely with the Philippine Department of Tourism to promote tourism and strengthen cultural ties between our countries,” said Ambassador Endo.

The new flights to Sapporo open the door to popular winter activities, including skiing, the Sapporo Snow Festival, and visits to the Sapporo Beer Museum and Otaru Canal. Visitors can also unwind in local onsens for a truly memorable trip.

Passengers can use their Travel Funds to book flights and other add-ons. CEB offers payment options via credit or debit cards and e-wallets.

CEB operates 37 domestic and 26 international destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
