The global health crisis accelerated digital transformation, and suddenly there was increased demand for new ways of living and working in the digital landscape. Globe had to forge ahead, adapt, and pivot to create a path to help Filipinos move forward by offering life-enabling content.

How the company developed a culture for innovation and put a premium on user experience was discussed by Rina Azcuna-Siongco, Globe Head of Get Entertained Tribe, at the Asia Video Summit 2021 of the Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA). The event’s final panel for technology talked about “From Fragmentation to Convergence – What’s Next for Entertainment?”

Siongco noted that the wave of changes the pandemic brought about led to the convergence of all different aspects of life into a singular channel– digital.  With this, Globe is transforming into a digital solutions platform with stakes in health and wellness, e-commerce and finance, productivity and education, and many more. All these endeavors were taken with the user experience in mind.

For Globe, leveling up the digital experience means creating value on top of its core mobile and data businesses. For instance, it has cultivated communities where every story is heard, and fans are empowered to express themselves.

Likewise, Globe creates unique offers that bundle content with data relevant to customers’ digital lifestyles and utilizes and maximizes all of its business channels to unlock the full potential of its different partnerships. It creates special propositions for its customers – from online channels like websites, apps, online shops, social media to offline executions that make the Globe experience seamless and complete.

When asked about the future of these innovations to its product offerings, Siongco is optimistic about Globe’s various prospects. The company’s telehealth app, KonsultaMD, continues to skyrocket in 2021. Fintech and e-commerce also continue to gain widespread popularity as proven by the 51 million users of GCash, another Globe affiliate.

As for its plans, Globe’s path is clear. A pioneer in 5G technology in the Philippines, Globe continues to roll out fiber-fast speeds nationwide to make sure streaming, gaming, audio/video calls, and mobile connectivity are better than ever before.

For its entertainment business, Globe is diversifying beyond data. It is setting its sights on media convergence through Globe Entertainment, expanding its services to the world of talent management, and providing production services that cater to both B2C and B2B markets.

Following the worldwide success of OTJ, Sunod, Midnight in a Perfect World, among other award-winning films, Globe will keep on creating content through Globe Studios. In turn, Globe Studios continue to churn out sustained content, with three new podcasts launched so far this month and several films and series underway.

Other prospects also include content licensing and distribution through UpStream and even going into publishing and production. All these will be rounded out with its own talent agency and management and an activation agency for productions.

The company strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, which highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe is committed to upholding the UN Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN SDGs.
