The National Telecommunications Commission on Tuesday ordered all telecommunications entities to ensure that there are sufficient number of technical and support personnel and standby generators with extra fuel, tools and spare equipment in the areas forecast to be affected by the incoming “Typhoon Ulysses”.

In a memorandum Order No. 05-04-2011 signed by Commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba, the NTC has tasked the country's telecommunications firms to be ready for the coming typhoon so that they can continue serving the people's telecommunication needs before, during and after the storm.

The NTC also directed the telco firms to preposition mobile cellsites in the affected regions, ensuring their readiness for deployment anytime.

“In line with this, you are reminded of your responsibility to submit reports to the Commission of the status of your respective network and facilities,” the memorandum also stated.

As reported today by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Typhoon Ulysses was “last spotted 250 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.”
