TW Steel backs ‘big-time’ artist

Every artist has a unique approach to producing art pieces. For 29-year-old Arthur Tselishchev, painting and drawing should be a multi-sensory experience. That means he usually taps his basic senses as stimuli when creating art.

“Before I paint or draw something, I first put cologne or perfume on myself,” Tselishchev revealed. “If I want to create something emotional, I choose a perfume that gives me such emotion, something I don’t wear every day, just on certain occasions.” The Ukrainian artist then plays on music and watch some videos for added inspiration, while sipping in some coffee to further engage his senses.

That was the idea behind ‘Bodies and Gestures: A Multi-Sensory Art Workshop,’ a four-hour activity held on February 8, 2020, at the Artelano 11 Gallery in Pasay City. “The workshop was designed to be a multi-sensory experience for all participants,” said Tselishchev.

“So many things, so little time. We don’t hear that from a lot of people,” said TW Steel and The Watch Store Asia Ltd. Marketing Director Manuel Dacanay. TW Steel supports passionate individuals like Tselishchev. “TW Steel always revolves around Big Time. Arthur Tselishchev is someone who makes time and puts in the time, making a constant effort in doing what he does. This is something TW Steel appreciates and acknowledges,” he added.

Involving all senses

The participants first gathered outside the gallery to socialize and talk with each other. There, they enjoyed snacks and coffee, while appreciating visuals and videos to set the mood. Once they get inside the gallery, classical songs with house beats were being played, while specific scents designed by uprising Filipino scent designer Oscar Mejia filled the air.

“When we paint or draw, we have to play the music that can bring about nostalgia so we can re-live some memories as inspiration. For masculine art pieces, we can wear something Musk then listen to Arabic, Turkish, or Persian music. Floral artworks can be induced by Asian or Chinese traditional music with the scent of the spa. Citrusy smell blends well with tropical house music. Everything is related. If you want to be productive in art, you have to use all your senses and incorporate them together,” Tselishchev explained.

Time management

The multi-sensory expertise comes naturally for Tselishchev, who is not your ordinary artist. Unlike most artists we know, this guy works as a full-time interior designer—a profession that takes 70% of his time. On the side, he is a fashion model, a fashion photographer, and a DJ for corporate events all at the same time.

Effective time management and setting of priorities keep him on his senses, Tselishchev disclosed. “Every day, I keep my priorities in mind.” His daily grind regularly starts at 7:30 a.m. He then takes breakfast, watches documentaries online by random, and draws or paints for two hours before going to his tasks as an interior designer, which takes most of his daytime. In the evening, he attends fashion events (when there is any) or spins music as a DJ. Going to the gym is still a must if he still has the energy.
