Huawei PH inks pact with PUP

Huawei Philippines recently made Polytechnic University of the Philippines its sixth school partner for its ICT Academy, in a signing witnessed by Counsellor Xie Yonghui of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China Wednesday afternoon at the PUP campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

PUP President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman welcomed the pact with Huawei, adding that this is a great opportunity for the state university to sign an pact with a world-class technology provider.  

Dr. De Guzman said the partnership would provide PUP students the opportunity to acquire information and communications technology skills through Huawei's certification program.

Huawei Philippines had earlier sign agreements with five other educational institutions, namely University of Southeastern Philippines, Mindanao State University – IIT, Bulacan State University, De La Salle University and Mapua Institute of Technology. 

Huawei Technologies Philippines, Inc.’s Public Affairs and Communications Department head Karenina Buenafe said PUP students will have the chance to unearth and hone their ICT talents as the Chinese technology giant sponsors skills competitions yearly.

Meanwhile, Counsellor Xie said Huawei will continue to foster friendly ties with the Philippines, adding relations between the two countries have grown under Presidents Rodrigo Duterte and Xi Jinping.

“Relations between the two countries which date back to centuries ago, have always benefitted Chinese and Filipino nationals,” said Xie, explaining that business between the Philippines and the world’s second-largest economy will continue to grow.

Speaking to PUP students, Counsellor Xie said PUP students into Engineering and ICT have the opportunity to find well-paying jobs at Huawei as Chinese companies in the Philippines now employ some16,000 Filipinos.
