HONDA, through the Honda Foundation, Inc. (HFI) and Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI), has established a significant partnership with Tamang Ride PH, an initiative organized by A Child’s Trust is Ours to Nurture (ACTION), Incorporated. This merger aims to promote road safety, particularly focusing on safe driving and riding practices for children and beginners.
The Tamang Ride movement is set to launch in May 2025, creating a platform for community engagement and awareness around road safety. ACTION has a longstanding commitment to supporting the Filipino population, especially vulnerable groups, through partnerships with government agencies like the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
As a leader in road safety education, Honda will contribute valuable resources, including training information and educational materials, to the Tamang Ride PH initiative. In a show of commitment, Honda has donated PHP 1 million to fund the development of the Tamang Ride App, designed to enhance road safety awareness and encourage public participation. The app will feature educational content, advocacy materials, and experiential testimonials from road users, all aimed at fostering a culture of safety on the roads.
This initiative also seeks to gather important road crash data, building on Honda’s existing collaboration with public entities, including a partnership with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) established in July 2023. The ultimate goal is to safeguard children and families in the Philippines, with a specific focus on reaching children aged 3 to 7 years, teens aged 13 to 17, and novice riders.
HPI will work closely with ACTION to develop the Tamang Ride Educational module, providing expertise and a funding commitment of PHP 980,000. The Honda Safety Driving Center (HSDC) will facilitate this by sharing its original Kids on Safety and Teen Smart programs and leading a “Training the Trainers” initiative within the year.
Since its inception in 2008, HSDC has been dedicated to promoting road safety through its “SAFETY FOR EVERYONE” and “SAFETY FOR OUR FAMILY” campaigns in the Philippines. Located in Parañaque City, HSDC serves as a premier facility for motorcycle and automobile drivers to learn essential safety skills and cultivate a road safety mindset. The center collaborates with both public and private organizations to spread awareness on road safety, including its Students on Safety program aimed at young people.
In December 2024, Honda also announced a multi-year partnership with the United Nations to improve global road safety, marking a historic step as the first vehicle manufacturer to join this initiative. Honda’s ambition is to halve traffic fatalities by 2030, with the partnership with Tamang Ride PH representing a crucial effort to reduce road crashes in the Philippines and strive for zero road fatalities by 2050.
