Bosch PH: The country has every reason to embrace the EV revolution

Electric vehicle (EV) adoption in the Philippines is gaining significant traction, driven by increasing government support and growing public awareness. A recent survey indicated that 50.8% of Filipinos view EVs as the future of transportation, highlighting a shift in public sentiment towards more sustainable mobility solutions. However, while enthusiasm is rising, experts stress the urgent need to develop a comprehensive EV ecosystem that focuses on enhancing both adoption and sales.

Challenges remain in this evolving landscape. Economic viability and the lack of extensive charging infrastructure are critical hurdles that must be addressed. Although the government has made strides with initiatives like the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI), the Philippines still lags behind regional counterparts such as Thailand and Indonesia in establishing robust policies and infrastructure. Experts advocate for stronger, targeted incentives aimed at both EV manufacturers and consumers, as well as significant investments in local manufacturing of essential components, particularly batteries.

Bosch Philippines’ Managing Director Paulo Duarte  emphasizes that the Philippines has the potential to become a key player in the EV battery sector due to its abundant nickel resources. Bosch, a global leader in technology and services, is actively engaged in discussions with policymakers to refine these initiatives, ensuring a clear roadmap for the future of electric mobility. The company leverages its extensive expertise in automotive technology to support the transition toward electrification, focusing on innovations that enhance vehicle performance and sustainability.

Bosch’s commitment to the EV revolution is evident in its development of high-performance electric powertrains and intelligent charging systems. The company aims to address Southeast Asia’s unique challenges, such as infrastructure gaps and economic viability, by providing tailored solutions that facilitate the growth of the EV market. Additionally, Bosch collaborates with governments and stakeholders to create a robust EV ecosystem that promotes sustainable mobility.

As urban mobility increasingly leans toward electrification, benefits such as reduced noise pollution and zero tailpipe emissions become more apparent. Consumers now seek personalized, reliable, and resource-efficient experiences, giving rise to the “software-defined vehicle,” where software significantly shapes performance and connectivity features. With projections indicating a potential demand for over 64 million EV charging points worldwide by 2029, the need for proactive collaboration between government and private sectors in the Philippines is clear.
