Environmental sustainability essential to business

Driving growth, but still keeping business activities in check have been the primary concern of enterprises in recent years in their promise not to compromise the environment in all their business processes.

Though it must be noted, that with the constant industrialization that comes with progress, it is particularly challenging for environmental sustainability to be on top of the agenda, but several industries have made it their priority to do just that.

From shifts in manufacturing practices and handling wastes properly to promoting green energy, corporations have realized the importance of taking care of the environment from which they gather most, if not all of their valuable natural resources, essential to their businesses.

With the constant industrialization that comes with progress, there’s no denying that environmental sustainability is particularly challenging, but an absolute necessity to address especially in these changing times.

Many companies are at the forefront of keeping the environment intact, hand-in-hand, and certainly embodying the mantra of growing their businesses beyond profit. Manila Standard is one with this movement.

For years, the broadsheet has initiated various tree-planting activities through its “Adopt-a-Tree” Program.

Building on this advocacy, it recently launched a pioneering project aimed at maintaining its values but still promoting the power of print.

In every purchase of a Manila Standard newspaper, a tree will be planted under the buyer’s name.

This project pizzazz, if vision, has pushed the Manila Standard to kickstart its #MSIntegriTree initiative recently in a momentous event that hopefully paves the way for other print partners to follow suit.

Furthermore, #MSIntegriTree is an integration of its former campaign years ago called the ‘Honor System’ and its present corporate social responsibility project ‘Adopt-a-Tree.’

Manila Standard’s OIC for Operations Annie Grefal explained the initiative: “When I started with the Manila Standard, we had a project called ‘Honor System,’ where the copies are being left in establishments, but it’s up to them if they would pay. Come to think of it, our problem is honesty. That’s why I want to resurrect the project where people can get their copies if they want to pay or not. If not, they could just read it.

“Then, the Adopt-a-Tree campaign of Manila Standard came to my mind. Why don’t we combine Adopt-a-Tree and Honesty? That’s how #MSIntegrity was born.”
