On the government front, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s seemingly simple decision to move public holidays that fall on a weekend to a Monday has yielded a surprisingly big reward: a surge in domestic tourism. The DOT, led by Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, is celebrating the move’s success, attributing it to a renewed interest and excitement among Filipinos to explore their own country.
