Manila Standard CSR Champions join DENR Coastal cleanup drive

Last April 8, the Manila Standard CSR Champions rallied to the call for a coastal cleanup issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The cleanup was held at the Las Pinas – Paranaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA), and was the first of a three-part series of festivities lined up in time for Philippine Earth Month.

About 30 Manila Standard Champions, along with volunteers and officials of the DENR, participated in the clean up.

The volunteers were divided into three-member teams and deployed along the area to pick up trash and other hazardous waste (like syringes, blades, hospital waste, and blades) littering the coast.

The Champions set upon the task with gusto, clearing up a substantial area of the Las Pinas-Paranaque coastline in no time.

The CSR champions harvested a veritable trove of plastic bags, pieces of netting and other non-biodegradable items from the shore line which could have endangered wildlife in the area, as well as made the waters toxic.
The Warriors worked under the sweltering sun to clean up the shoreline of Las Pinas and Paranaque.

After spending a backbreaking day in the sweltering heat, the Champions went home tired but with a sense of accomplishment, knowing they had helped in keeping the earth healthy and safe—or at least one area of it.
