Local Changemakers Shine at the Nation Builders and MOSLIV Awards 2025

In 2015, the United Nations introduced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—a set of 17 global targets designed to end poverty, protect the planet, and promote peace and prosperity by 2030. These goals serve as a universal blueprint for improving lives while ensuring long-term environmental and economic resilience. From clean water and sustainable cities to quality education, strong institutions, and climate action, the SDGs emphasize that development must be inclusive, equitable, and future-ready.

In the Philippines, this commitment to sustainable progress is showcased annually through recognitions like the Nation Builders and MOSLIV (Most Sustainable and Liveable) Awards, which celebrate individuals and institutions whose initiatives bring the SDGs to life at the community level.

Held on November 27, 2025, at the Grand Ballroom of Okada Manila, this year’s awards gathered more than a thousand leaders and changemakers from government, NGOs, businesses, and advocacy groups across the country. Organized by Sustainability Standards, Inc., the event honored outstanding achievements in sustainable governance, environmental stewardship, community leadership, responsible business, disaster resilience, and public service.

National leaders and sector experts delivered keynote messages underscoring the critical role of cross-sector collaboration in achieving long-term development goals.

In an interview, Sustainability Standards Inc. President and CEO Kenneth Rocete stressed the importance of strong grassroots governance in the face of today’s political challenges.

“To combat all the measures pertaining to political disturbances, we’ll need to stick to our program like featuring and empowering leaders from the countryside development.” he noted. “We need to empower barangays, and besides, barangay is our family. They’re not just public servants—they are the immediate responders to problems in the community.”

Since its establishment in 2018, the Nation Builders and MOSLIV Awards have honored over 1,200 changemakers nationwide. The 2025 edition reaffirmed the program’s purpose: to highlight leaders whose work proves that sustainability is not an abstract ambition, but a lived responsibility.

As the world approaches the 2030 SDG deadline, the event serves as a clear reminder that sustainability is no longer an aspiration but a necessity. The work of the awardees demonstrates that meaningful progress begins at the community level—where every decision, every program, and every act of leadership contributes to a more inclusive, livable, and sustainable Philippines.
