Herzogenaurach, January 6, 2025: It has been another history-making year for adidas’ fastest running shoe family, breaking new ground in helping to progress athlete achievement. Marking a year of successes, adidas athletes wearing Adizero shoes won 51% of top 50 track and road races – more than all other running brands combined.
Since the Adizero Adios Pro range launched in 2020, it has featured on the feet of more World Marathon Major winners than any other brand’s racing collection. In 2024, athletes wearing shoes from the Adizero franchise built on previous successes by breaking seven world records across road and track events.
- At the start of the year, Agnes Ngetich broke two world records in the same race at the Valencia 10k, wearing the Adizero Takumi Sen 9. Agnes ran 28:46, becoming the first woman to break 29 minutes for a road 10k, improving the previous record by 28 seconds. En route to this time, she also broke the 5k world record, splitting 14:13 at halfway – six seconds faster than the previous world record.
- At the London Marathon 2024, Peres Jepchirchir won in a new women-only world record of 2:16.16; 45 seconds off the previous record set on the same course by Mary Keitany in 2017. Her victory made it six out of seven World Major Marathon wins for adidas athletes wearing the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 since its launch.
- At the fourth edition of Adizero: Road to Records, Emanuel Wanyonyi set a new road mile world record of 3:54.56 in the Takumi Sen 10 – lowering the mark previously set by Hobbs Kessler – before going on to win the Paris 2024 Olympic 800m final in 1:41.19. Wearing the Adizero Ambition spikes, he became the third-fastest man in history over that distance. Tamirat Tola also shone in the French heat, winning the Paris 2024 Olympic men’s marathon in a new course record time of 2:06.26 wearing the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1.
- In October, Yomif Kejelcha set a new men’s half marathon world record in Valencia, clocking 57:30 wearing the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 – the third world record for adidas athletes wearing the Evo 1 since its launch in September 2023. This was closely followed by Tigist Assefa’s women’s marathon world record at the Berlin Marathon in the same shoes –a record broken by over two minutes. On the same day as Yomif’s history-making performance in Valencia, Agnes Ngetich ran the second fastest women’s half-marathon ever in her debut at the distance, running 63:04 in the Adizero Takumi Sen 9.
- Closing out the season, Sheila Chepkirui became the first athlete to win a World Marathon Major wearing the Adizero Adios Pro 4 at the New York marathon, following its earlier unveil at the Berlin Marathon. Followed a month later by Sabastian Sawe running the fifth-fastest time ever to win the Valencia Marathon in 2:02.05 wearing the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 – in his marathon debut
Alberto Uncini Manganelli, General Manager Running & Credibility Sports at adidas, said: “Adizero is the lightest and fastest collection, which has supported the best athletes’ performance of the year. More than half of the top races have been won by athletes wearing Adizero in 2024 – more than all the rest, combined. We are so proud of what our athletes have achieved and what the future holds.
