BIPV Korea brings latest solar technology to Phl

Companies and consumers looking for renewable and earth-friendly source of energy can soon avail of an alternative solar energy system with the advent of the state-of-the-art solar technology called Building Integrated Photo Voltaic (BIPV) System.

This after BIPV Korea recently signed a joined venture agreement with A.C.Ong Consulting Inc. to form BIPV Philippines and be the sole manufacturer and distributor of the revolutionary technology.

Developed by BIPV Korea/Sejong International Co. Ltd. in Chungcheongbuk-do, the BIPV System is composed of materials that integrate solar cells with building exterior such as roofs, exterior walls, and windows.

To address concerns of retrofitting the roofs and structural members of buildings to accommodate the heavy conventional solar panels and compromise structural integrity, the BIPV solar modules are thin and lightweight, making these less costly to install for all types of roofing.

“We are growing our business under the philosophy of ‘Buildings Generate Their Own Electricity’ with continuous research and development, and laying the foundation for the global market with partnerships with industries and entities specializing in BIPV,” says BIPV Korea chief executive officer Kim Cheol Ho during his recent visit to the Philippines.

He added that as the new paradigm for renewable energy, BIPV is taking the lead with global partners in their drive for carbon neutrality as part of their environmental advocacy.

Another distinguishing system feature is its maximization of available space to harness as building facades can be placed with BIPV solar walls, giving standard and high-rise buildings more opportunities to utilize solar energy.

Mixing style with the durability of internationally certified construction-grade materials, the BIPV system makes solar energy a must-have for developing and ecologically-conservative cities. These qualities have earned the nod of the Korean government for fiscal incentives in 2020, and mainstream its use in buildings, homes, bus stations, and public structures in major cities in Korea.

A.C.Ong Consulting Inc. president and CEO Engr. Alden Ong expressed optimism on the potentials of BIPV Philippines, with the heightened awareness and preference for renewable energy country to lessen the carbon footprint and help avert global warming.

“We have big plans in manufacturing BIPV technology with locally-sourced materials to make our products much more accessible and affordable for the local market,” he added.
