When we think about being healthy and fit, we often think of diets and exercise. Both are important, of course, but we can tend to overlook one important step—reading nutrition labels! Even without wanting to become a fitness buff, you can stay healthy and strong, and keep illness away by knowing what you eat. Just through this simple step, you’ll be able to make informed decisions about your health.

Dr. Dexter Macalintal, a registered nutritionist and physician from Calamba Medical Center, discusses the major parts of the nutrition label. Behind your food packages and drink mixes, you’ll see a white label with black text and measurements. The first part of the nutrition label or nutrition facts is the servings per container label. One serving is equivalent to 1 fluid ounce (fl oz). Per serving, the nutrition label then shows you the number of calories it contains (calories per serving), as well as the % of daily values, which is the percent of the daily allowance of specific nutrients and minerals your food or drink gives you. The daily values percentage is the recommended amount of nutrients that a regular person should have as part of their recommended daily calorie intake. This is usually 2000 calories for women and 2500 for men. So, for instance, we would often look at the total fat per serving if we want to slim down or eat more nutritious food. In Organique Acai Premium Blend, the nutrition facts indicate that it only contains 1 gram of total fat and that the % of daily values for total fat is 2% (40 grams) for a 2000-calorie diet. Thus, we can say that Organique Acai Premium Blend doesn’t contain a lot of fat per serving, which is good if you want to have a healthier diet. Other daily values indicated on the nutrition facts are that of cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, protein, and vitamins. Each one of us has a unique body and health situation, so we should always take a look at the content of the food we eat.

Your nutrition facts will also indicate the ingredients. It’s important to check these as well since these help us know what can trigger any possible allergies or hypersensitivities we may have, especially towards artificial additives and preservatives. In a way, these also help explain the numbers we see on the nutrition label. For example, in Organique Acai Premium Blend, the main ingredient, which is the first one indicated, is organic acai puree. This helps explain the sugar and fiber content, which goes into 5 grams of total carbohydrates. This is just a small percentage of your recommended carbohydrate intake. Dr. Macalintal also says that we should also be on the lookout for buzzwords such as partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, which can indicate trans fat content even if the label says that there are 0 trans fats per serving. It is actually possible that the trans fat amount could be rounded down, such as from 0.5 to 0. Because of this, we might consume more trans fat than we think, especially as we take more servings.

On this note, food supplements are still considered as food, and thus also contain different ingredients and nutrients we should check for. If you prefer taking food supplements to support your lifestyle or diet, make sure to check that the ingredients are as organic as possible, since these supplements are still processed and can contain artificial additives. You can try taking Organique Acai Premium Blend, which is all-natural and safe to take with maintenance medicine. Take one shot a day before breakfast (or 30 minutes after breakfast if you have a sensitive stomach), to kickstart your healthy lifestyle with high vitamin and fiber content.
