Giving back to the society

And this was thanks to the initiative of Certified Calm, one of the leading providers of health and wellness gear that organized the event benefiting a handful of members in the center in an intimate yoga session, May 21, 2019- in commemoration of the National Mental Health Awareness Month.

Isabel Dulay-Naval of Bliss Yoga Manila led the Sanctuary Center residents in Barangay Addition Hills through the relaxing yoga class, which hopes to provide the women with a spark of positivity and energy.

The Sanctuary Center is a residential institution that serves as a safe house for women recovering from psychosis and other mental illnesses.

This DSWD Residential Care project aims to help women that are challenged mentally, find a new sanctuary to start anew and move forward to their life’s next chapter.

The Social Workers prepare different activities for the women but admit that they still have limited activities for the said women to enjoy that is why they welcome activities that would be helpful for the center’s residents.

Certified Calm has been doing these kind of events that introduces Yoga to women for three consecutive years and finds DSWD Sanctuary Center as a great venue to share the wonders of Yoga.

In an interview with Ms. Darcy Ong, owner of Certified Calm, she said that, “Almost 100% of our clientele are women and most of them are coming the A-B markets. That’s why we want to give back to the society also through women.”

The event was done to commemorate the National Mental Health Awareness Month as they give a spark of positivity and energy to the women through a 30-minute yoga class that was led by teacher Isabel Dulay of Yoga Bliss.

“We made sure that the positions and exercises are not too hardcore so, they can follow easily.” Ong said when asked about the yoga event that happened.

At the end of the event the women of DSWD Sanctuary Center had smiles in their faces reflecting the enjoyment they had from the yoga class they have attended.

Certified Calm, according to the company, has always "believed health is a holistic endeavour — as much wellness of the heart and mind, as it is wellness of the body."

They say that this is most evident in their endorsement of yoga, and yoga-related brands such as Manduka.

"What sets yoga apart from other athletic practices has always been its emphasis on mental health. Practitioners all over the world have often cited its psychological benefits as a core reason for their continued commitment to the activity," said one of the nation’s leading providers of health and wellness gear, and a longtime champion of community wellness endeavours.

Some of their most well-known brands include Manduka, Klean Kanteen, Toesox, Lorna Jane, Onzie, and ChicoBag— all very much well known for their advocacies in the environment, and women-empowerment sectors.
