This aims to mobilize and educate the public on the importance of protecting waterways such as beaches, rivers, and the bay, to keep them free from litter and commercial trash. SM by the BAY’s regular cleanup drives support the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program and has been in place since 2015. This initiative forms part of SM’s commitment to the government, which will be followed by a cleanup of the portion of Parañaque waterways.

Representatives from Pasay City City Environment Office (CENRO), Non-government organizations, employees from the US Embassy, local community, and employee volunteers from SM are expected to participate in the quarterly cleanup activity.

“Coastal areas are important to everyone, especially for the marine ecosystem. As a member of the community, we want to do our share to achieve its healthy state. With this event, we are grateful to work with the local government and the community in caring for our bay and for the environment,” said Perkin So, SM Mall of Asia Senior Asst. Vice President for Operations.

SM by the BAY regularly conducts cleanup drives and other environment initiatives led by its employees, community members and partners from the government and private sector. Every third Saturday of September, SM by the BAY leads the International Coastal Cleanup for Metro Manila in support of Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Day.
