Folayang talks Alvarez-Lapicus clash

Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang will return to action against Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama at “ONE on TNT IV” on the morning of April 29.

But before he switches into warrior mode, he will enjoy being a fan first.

Folayang is just one of the many people who are anxiously waiting for the lightweight clash between Eddie “The Underground King” Lapicus and #2-ranked contender Iuri Lupicus in the co-main event of “ONE on TNT I,” which airs this Thursday morning, 8 April, on One Sports.

“Landslide” shared the stage with Alvarez in one of the most action-packed rounds in ONE, with Folayang battering the American on the feet before the latter turned things around on the ground to secure a submission win.

Lapicus, on the other hand, was also on the wrong end of a comeback, losing to Christian “The Warrior” Lee in his bid for the ONE Lightweight World Title last year – but he remains one of the best young stars in the division.

“Iuri is younger and has that youthful energy on his side. Eddie has that veteran experience. He’s been through a lot and has seen it all,” Folayang said.

“It’s hard to calculate who will take this one. As a fan, it will be fun to watch.”

Aside from being a battle between the old guard and new generation, this match is certainly a clash of two finishers.

Alvarez has 30 wins in his career, and 23 of those didn’t reach the final bell. Lapicus has 14 finishes out of 14 wins.

With that said, Folayang is ecstatic for this match to get underway.

“It’s a good fight for both guys. Both of them come to fight, and they are never boring. I respect that. It should be entertaining for the fans,” he said.

“They both have solid all-around skills. Eddie is a proven champion, but Iuri’s coming into this very confident.”

Folayang passed on giving his prediction, as he believes this match is too close to call.

“The one who wants it more is going to win. It’s going to come down to willpower,” he said.
