It will be a battle between two heavy hitters as ONE Championship springs back into action this Friday, 29 January, with the previously recorded ONE: UNBREAKABLE II, which went down at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Former ONE Heavyweight World Title challenger Mauro “The Hammer” Cerili and Abdulbasir “Dagestan Machine” Vagabov square off in a main event clash between two heavyweights aiming for the division’s elite.
Cerili had his shot against reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera but lost to the Filipino in what has been the biggest match of the Italian’s career.
A win over debuting Vagabov will put him back in the mix at heavyweight, a division that got much deeper after ONE’s recent series of world-class signings.
Vagabov is one of those new signings.
The Russian comes in with a 12-1 record and an astonishing 91 percent finishing rate, which means all eyes will be on him this Friday.
A win for Vagabov will also get him noticed by Vera, who promised a promotional return this year after spending most of 2020 with his wife and new son.
In the co-main event, two of ONE’s top grapplers will clash as Daichi Takenaka drops to flyweight and meets Ivanildo “Monstrinho” Delfino in a match that could shake things up.
Takenaka’s change in weightclass comes after a decision loss to Yusup “The Maestro” Saadulaev late in 2019 – though he’s confident the lengthy layoff won’t effect him.
Delfino is also coming off a loss – the first of his career – against Tatsumitsu “The Sweeper” Wada, making this matchup interesting considering its implications for both athlete’s careers.
