The world’s largest martial arts organization – ONE Championship – returns to action with ONE: NO SURRENDER this Friday (July 31) in Bangkok, Thailand.
The card features some of the best strikers in the world who will compete in two Muay Thai World Title contests and a kickboxing superbout.
It will also be a breakthrough night for Philippine mixed martial arts because ONE Championship will air this event on Cignal and TV5 for the first time.
Here are three reasons why this show is a must see for hardcore and casual fans alike.
Tyson’s Rise
Filipino-Kiwi sensation Mark “Tyson” Fairtex Abelardo has always been one of the top Filipino athletes in the organization, and while his run to the top was derailed in February by “Pretty Boy” Troy Worthen, he is not demoralized.
Abelardo promises to put on a show for his fans as he takes on Fabrício “Wonder Boy” Andrade in a 67-kilogram catchweight contest.
A win for Tyson would put him right back on track as he eases into the loaded bantamweight division. Also, being the lone Filipino athlete on the card, there is no better event for Abelardo to showcase his talents on as plenty of kababayans will be glued to their television screens to watch the night unfold.
World Class Striking
Filipinos are naturally drawn to the art of striking. Having produced a plethora of World Champion boxers in the past, it is easy for Pinoys to appreciate Muay Thai and kickboxing.
Luckily for them, ONE: NO SURRENDER is full of world class strikers.
The main event pits ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon against Petchdam “The Baby Shark” Petchyindee Academy; and in the co-main event, Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy and “The Boxing Computer” Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex clash for the ONE Featherweight World Title.
ONE Is Back
After reeling from the effects of COVID-19, people crave normalcy, and having ONE Championship back after five long months is a breath of fresh air for combat sports fans.
In Southeast Asia, countries are still reeling from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with ONE back in the fray, it could be a much-needed boost for people’s morale.
This event marks not only the return of the organization, but a 10-event marathon that will culminate in October of this year.
