People all over the world are struggling amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but for ONE Championship lightweight Trestle “Jun Minion” Tan, it is more challenging.

Aside from traveling to places to compete in The Home Of Martial Arts, he also flies from one country to another to work and train.

That means he is isolated from his family—who lives in Toledo, Cebu—as the world tries to contain this virus.

“I remember this is exactly what we did in life back then. We stay together at home, eat together, clean the house together, but my situation is tough since I am away from my family,” Tan said.

After working in Vietnam as a fitness coach, Tan is now the head coach of Gorilla Gym in Hamburg, Germany.

Work opportunities might be raining down on him now, but the 34-year-old would rather be with his family if given the chance.

“We all don’t know when the situation is going to get back to normal. As much as possible, I want to be on their side to protect and guide them away from this virus,” Tan said.

“My parents are in a small town of Cebu, which is a good thing because they are away from the main city. I am confident that they know how to act in these situations.”

“Although I have constant communication with my family, I still prefer to be around them right now because if one gets sick, that’s another story.”

“Jun Minion” is hopeful that when this is all over, the world will be a better place because of the lessons that can be taken away from this virus.

“This is a challenge that will teach everyone a lot of lessons. COVID-19 might have hit us hard, but I know we can definitely overcome this problem and will become a better nation moving forward,” Tan said.

“Hygiene, cleanliness, patience, and respect are the things I see improving after this, alongside our appreciation for what we have and love, how we spend time with our families, and understanding how valuable this time can be.

“I also see the benefits of communication with family and friends, even just over the phone.”
