Over the weekend, head coach Mark Sangiao announced that the central gym and training center of the team will closed until the pandemic is contained.

For the meantime, he advised his athletes to stay at home and continue their personal routine while following the community quarantine guidelines.

“Each of us has our own fight and has our own corner to battle for, but this time, Team Lakay is one with combating COVID-19. This is a herculean match that we can never prevail from without our gross cooperation and discipline,” Sangiao said.

“Our Team Lakay warriors, nonetheless, will train in closed doors as our pursuit to hold our flag high in combat is constantly calling.”

The team has no other choice but to adjust, and in the case of these warriors, the show must go on.

“Right now, we’re in home quarantine because it’s dangerous to go out, so all workouts to stay in shape are done at home,” former ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon said.

“I do exercises and several drills at home, so I remain healthy and in shape, so if ONE comes calling for a match, I am ready to go.”

Reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio and former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang have also taken their respective training sessions home.

From doing squats with 10 gallons of water on his shoulders to converted push-ups, Pacio has certainly taken this workout-from-home seriously.

Folayang, likewise, started sharing tips on how to stay fit on his Facebook page.

“Let’s do more with less. Training in isolation is no problem as long as we progress,” Folayang said.

Like many people, Belingon is frustrated with what has been happening. But he understands that the best thing most people can do is to stay at home to avoid being carriers of the virus.

“If only I could kick the virus away, I would have done it a long time ago,” Belingon said.

“But right now we have no other choice but to follow the government, the Department Of Health, stay at home, observe proper hygiene, and pray.”
